The Curragh staged their pen-ultimate meeting of the year on Sunday (the last meeting is today) and it featured some good contests, most notably the Listed Finale Stakes over a twelve furlongs. It provided a John Oxx trained 1-2 with victory going to Hazarafa (IRE) beating her stable companion Roses For The Lady (IRE). The winner is an Aga Khan owned homebred and is by Daylami who now stands in Coolagown Stud in Cork alongside Papal Bull. The win was a feather in the cap of apprentice Ben Curtis, a rising star of the younger Irish jockeys.
The Ballydoyle filly Gemstone (IRE) landed the Listed Lanwades & Staffordstown Stakes continuing the fine run of her sire Galileo. Gemstone was bred by Airlie Stud and is a graduate of Goffs Orby sale where she was bought by Demi O’Byrne for €150,000. The other stakes race on the card, the Jersey Racing Club Testimonial Stakes saw Luisant gain a much deserved win for Curragh trainer James Nash.
