For the second weekend in a row there was an Irish bred Group 1 winner in Italy. Aoife Alainn (IRE) bred in Ireland by Deer Forest Stud won the Premio Lydia Tesio at Capannelle for her owner/trainer Maurizio Guarnieri. Aoife Alainn (means ‘Lovely Aoife’ in Irish) is another Group 1 winning Goffs graduate having been sold twice at the Kildare based sales company, latterly when bought as a yearling by Emerald Bloodstock for €46,000 at the Orby Sale. Goffs concluded their yearling sales for 2010 with the Open Yearling Sale last Friday. A son of Elusive City, bought by Ross Doyle for €29,000 was the day’s highest price and overall the sale posted a set of improved returns to those of last year. Turnover was up over €100,000 on last year and the clearance rate improved to a respectable 62%. The focus at Goffs now moves to foals and breeding stock with that sale taking place from 16th – 20th November.
