High Chaparral is not the only Irish stallion making waves down under. Ballyhane Stud’s Captain Rio sired his second Group 1 winner in the southern hemisphere when Brazilian Pulse won the Group 1 Crown Oaks in Flemington, Australia last Thursday. Captain Rio, a high class sprinting son of Pivotal has proved to be a prolific sire of winners since his switch to stud duties. He stands at Ballyhane Stud in County Carlow alongside Arakan, Diamond Green, Dandy Man, Captain Marvelous and Majestic Missile. Arakan also had a breakthrough year at stud in 2010 when his son Dick Turpin (IRE) provided him with his first Group 1 winner.
