The Group 3 La Habra Stakes at Santa Anita on Monday produced a thrilling finish and a one-two for Irish-breds, as Cambina (IRE) swooped late to nail Quiet Oasis (IRE) on the line. Cambina was having her second start in North America for trainer Jeff Blonde and owners Bilich, Cline, Schmitt, Raihill et al, who acquired her after a successful campaign in Ireland for trainer Tommy Stack and owner Mrs John Magnier which yielded two wins in Killarney and a second placing in a Curragh Listed race. Bred by Carradale Ltd and by former Coolmore stallion Hawk Wing, she is the first foal out of the unraced Peintre Celebre mare Await, who is a half-sister to the dual Listed winner Lightning Hit (Orpen) and comes from the family of Jacqueline Quest (Rock Of Gibraltar), who was demoted from first and placed second in last year’s 1,000 Guineas at Newmarket.
