Tattersalls Ireland host a flat breeze-up sale this Thursday and the quality of their flat graduates was emphasized again over the weekend when they supplied the first and second home in the Group 1 BMW Champions Mile at Sha Tin Racecourse in Hong Kong. The winner Xtension (IRE), bred in Ireland by Paul McCartan was landing his first Group 1 victory and had half a length to spare over Lucky Nine (IRE), who was formerly trained in Ireland by Andrew Oliver. Both horses were well bought as yearlings at Tattersalls Ireland September Yearling sale, costing only €15,000 and €9,000 respectively.
Another Tattersalls Ireland September yearling graduate to impress over the weekend was Dick Turpin (IRE) who was the smooth winner of the Group 2 Bet365 Mile at Sandown on Saturday for trainer Richard Hannon. His rider Richard Hughes was very pleased with the performance commenting; “The world is his oyster now. Dick Turpin is more straightforward than Canford Cliffs; you can put him anywhere in the race.” Dick Turpin, a Group 1 winner last year was bred by John McEnery of Rossenarra Stud and is by Arakan who stands at Ballyhane Stud. He was bought as a foal in Goffs by Noel McDonnell for €12,000 and reoffered for sale the following year at Tattersalls Ireland where he was bought by Peter & Ross Doyle for €26,000.
