Aidan O’Brien finished up Royal Ascot on a high saddling two winners there on Saturday. Maybe (IRE) looked different class to the opposition when landing the opening Chesham Stakes. The daughter of Galileo travelled strongly throughout and she wasn’t over extended to beat Fort Bastion by two lengths. Maybe was bred by Epona Bloodstock, the breeding company of Denis Brosnan’s Croom House Stud. It was a deserved success for the breeder as Brosnan had come close on two occasions earlier in the week with Zoffany and Field Of Miracles, both of whom he bred, running great races in defeat. For good measure Croom House Stud also sold the runner up to Maybe, Fort Bastion as a yearling.
Await The Dawn was Ballydoyle’s second winner of the afternoon when landing the odds in the Group 2 Hardwick Stakes. The Breeders Cup Classic is the main target this season for the son of Giants Causeway and O’Brien could not hide the huge opinion in which he holds the 4yo; “From day one he has always showed extraordinary talent. We have let him come along slowly and he is very exciting.”
