York hosted their four day Ebor Festival last week and Irish bred success was capped by the victory of Margot Did (IRE) in the Group 1 Coolmore sponsored Nunthorpe Stakes. Trained by Michael Bell and a second Group 1 for jockey Hayley Turner, the flying filly travelled strongly throughout and was always doing enough to repel Hamish McGonagall. Margot Did (by Exceed And Excel) was bred by Nick Hartery of Caherass Stud in Co. Limerick out of Special Dancer (by Shareef Dancer). She was sold as a yearling in Goffs for €16,000 to Michael Halford.
Another Irish bred horse to impress was Green Destiny (IRE), the winner of the Group 3 Strensall Stakes for trainer William Haggas and owners Saleh Al Homaizi & Imad Al Sagar. Previously a winner of the valuable John Smiths Cup, Green Destiny was bred by the Mubkera Syndicate and is by Marju who stands at Derrinstown Stud.
