Another Irish breeder who enjoyed a good result over the weekend was Douglas Taylor. Taylor is better known for owning and breeding Cheltenham Festival winner Final Approach and masterminding an elaborate and highly successful gamble on his D Four Dave at Kilbeggan last year. He is now also the breeder of a very useful flat horse in Mehdi (IRE), the winner of the valuable Tattersalls Millions Auction Stakes at Newmarket on Saturday. Mehdi is trained by Brian Meehan who described the winner as “definitely a stakes horse” and is by Holy Roman Emperor out of College Fund Girl, making him a half brother to Taylor’s Cheltenham hero Final Approach.
