The jumps season is beginning to ramp up both in Ireland and the UK with many household names getting ready for action. At Limerick on Sunday, former Grade 1 winning novice hurdler Muirhead capitalized on an attractive steeplechase handicap mark to win the valuable Munster National. A fourth win over the weekend for the Noel Meade Paul Carberry alliance, Muirhead jumped and travelled well throughout and won very easily in the end from favourite Bideford Legend. Bred by Catherine Ryan Muirhead (by Flemensfirth) was sold as a weanling in Goffs and as a 3yo in Tattersalls Ireland and has won almost €250,000 in prize-money. Earlier in the day Royal Reveille (IRE) looked a horse to follow when hacking up in the Grade 3 Greenmount Novice Hurdle. The son of Old Vic made all the running under Ruby Walsh and had the race won a long way from home. A winning point to pointer, Royal Reveille should certainly pay his way when reverting to the larger obstacles. He was sold by his breeder Aiden O’Gorman as a foal in Tattersalls Ireland for €9,200.
