The admirable BALLYCASEY (IRE) defied a penalty and long season to take Monday’s Grade 3 feature at Killarney; the ten-year-old’s 11th victory for Willie Mullins and Susannah Ricci. A Grade 1 winner of fences in 2014, the grey lost his way until last season, during which he won four times, including three times at Grade 2 level. Unplaced in the Grade 1 Champion Chase at Punchestown last time out, he looked at home over the two and a half mile trip, making all under Ruby Walsh and going best of the five horse field with two to go. Driven clear, he beat recent Grade 3 winner Rock The World (IRE) by 14 lengths.

Bred by Richard Tanner, BALLYCASEY (IRE) was bought by Ian Ferguson for €45,000 at the Tattersalls Ireland November NH Sale and went on to be placed in two point-to-points for Colin McKeever. The son of champion NH sire Presenting has three full siblings to look forward to, bred out of the unraced mare Pink Mist (IRE).
