The remarkably consistent MS PARFOIS (IRE) gained a well-deserved black-type success in Wednesday’s feature at Newbury, the Listed Mares’ Novices’ Chase. A winner at Cheltenham just five days prior, the Anthony Honeyball-trained mare was stepping up to just short of three miles but handled it well, staying on well on the run-in to win by three and a half lengths.

Fellow Tattersalls Ireland graduate and Grade 2 runner-up Happy Diva (IRE) stayed on for second, with a further four lengths back to Two Swallows in third. MS PARFOIS (IRE) was gaining her sixth win under rules and has only been out of the first three twice in ten starts.

She learnt her trade with Martin Hassett, for whom she won a four-year-old mares maiden on debut at Boulta. Shane Hassett had bought her for a bargain €4,200 at the August NH Sale the previous year. Bred by William and Daryl Deacon, she is a half-sister to two winners and comes from the family of Grade 1 Sefton Novices’ Hurdle winner Pettifour (IRE). She is a daughter of Mahler, who will be on show at the Beeches Stud during next month’s ITM Irish Stallion Trail (read more).
