URBAN SEA TO THE FORE ONCE MORE

19 April 2018

Godolphin’s homebred MASAR (IRE) blew away his rivals in Thursday’s Group 3 Craven Stakes at Newmarket, winning by an uncontested nine lengths. The Charlie Appleby-trained colt did not take to the Meydan dirt last month, but had strong form as a juvenile, beaten less than three lengths by Mendellsohn at the Breeders Cup, after finishing third in the Group 1 Prix Jean Luc Lagardere and winning the Group 3 Solario Stakes.

The 2,000 Guineas is next for MASAR (IRE), whose dam Khawlah (IRE) won the UAE Derby and Oaks. A daughter of Cape Cross (IRE), she is a half-sister to Group 2 winner Vancouverite. The second dam, meanwhile, was placed in both the Irish and Epsom Oaks, and the third dam is none other than Prix de l’Arc de Triomphe heroine Urban Sea. MASAR (IRE) is therefore inbred to Galileo (IRE) and Sea The Stars (IRE).
