First mares in foal for Waldgeist
04 March 2020
The four-time Group 1 winner Waldgeist has made the perfect start to his stud career at Ballylinch Stud and is proving very popular with breeders in his first season. His crowning glory was an emphatic victory over 9 Group One winners in a vintage renewal of the Prix de l’Arc de Triomphe and Waldgeist is proving just as effective in his new career with the first two mares he has covered both being scanned in foal.
The mares are Bayja (IRE), the dam of dual Group 3 winner New Providence and Group-placed sprinter Ekhtiyaar, and the maiden Siyouni mare Barkaa, winner of the Group Three Prix Vanteaux at Longchamp.
Ballylinch Stud Managing Director John O’Connor said, “Waldgeist was an exceptional racehorse and he has the pedigree, looks and athleticism to go with it. We have had a lot of success standing Lope de Vega (IRE) in partnership with Gestüt Ammerland and I am confident Waldgeist will continue that success. Waldgeist will also benefit from the powerful support of his co-breeder Newsells Park and the backing of shareholders from all over Europe which ensures that his first book will be strong on quality and quantity, giving him every chance to succeed at stud.”
Waldgeist stands for €17,500.
