ANTONIA DE VEGA (IRE) confirmed the promise of her debut victory when making a successful step up in class in Saturday’s Group 3 Prestige Stakes at Goodwood. The Ralph Beckett-trained two-year-old won a highly-competitive maiden at the Newmarket July course and for that, shared favouritism with Richard Hannon’s well-bred representative, Posted.

The most lightly-raced in a field of , ANTONIA DE VEGA (IRE) showed her inexperience when hesitating to challenge and it was not until inside the final furlong that the penny dropped, and with that, Harry Bentley’s mount surged past her rivals with an astonishing turn of foot. Bentley later eluded to the Fillies Mile as a potential target for the winner, deeming a step up in trip to her liking. Last year’s winner, Billesdon Brook, won the 2018 1,000 Guineas, which would further support his claims.

Bred by Fermoir Ltd, ANTONIA DE VEGA (IRE) was sold by Ballylinch Stud to Ralph Beckett for €100,000 at the Goffs Orby Sale. Ballylinch stand her sire, Lope De Vega (IRE), and bred and raced her dam, Witches Brew (IRE), to earn black-type on two occasions. Witches Brew (IRE) is a half-sister to Group 1 Prix Jacques le Marois victor Al Wukair (IRE) and shares her page with Prix de Diane heroine Caerlina (IRE), Irish 1,000 Guineas third La Nuit Rose and Group 1 performer Sri Putra.
