Tattersalls Ireland graduate TIME WARP produced a performance for the ages on Sunday morning as he made virtually all the running in the Hong Kong Gold Cup.

As he fended off former Horse of the Year, Werther, by half a length, he became the first horse to dip below 2 minutes for Sha Tin’s ten-furlong circuit, stopping the clock at 1 minute 59.97 seconds to eclipse the previous best set in 1999 by French globetrotter Jim And Tonic.

Times of this nature really matter in Hong Kong, therefore so every credit is due to the chestnut gelding who cost 37,000 euro at Fairyhouse’s September Yearling Sale in 2014 when selected by Jeremy Brummit from the Staffordstown draft.

TIME WARP has now rewarded that investment by winning nearly Euros 2.7 million, having also won the Hong Kong Cup from international opposition in December.

In fact, it is remarkable to think that he was winless in Hong Kong for his first year of racing there before winning and only began his winning spree in a relatively plain handicap at Happy Valley only last June.

TIME WARP is trained by Tony Cruz and carries the colours of prominent owner Martin Siu.
