The Irish Racehorse Retirement Fund (IRRF), an Irish charity for the welfare of horses that have retired from racing, are holding an online auction, which includes some exciting 2022 nominations to Flat and National Hunt stallions, a number of golfing days at Rathsallagh and Moyvalley, a signed Healy Racing Grand National montage and tickets to this year’s Irish National.

The nominations include a cover to proven Gr.1 stallion Kuroshio (Exceed And Excel) in Co Westmeath and new National Hunt recruits Saintgodrel (Saint Des Saints) and Boscaccio (Mount Nelson) who both stand in Co Kilkenny.

The charity helps support the re-training and re-homing of former racehorses and promotes their versatility for other equestrian disciplines and pursuits. Funds are available for off the track thoroughbreds that have retired from racing and covers two to six months retraining, the rehabilitation of racehorses that are retiring due to injury and cannot be part of the retraining program, as well as welfare training to industry staff and funding support for re-trainers.

IRRF secretary and amateur jockey, Heather Heffernan said: “We are delighted by the support that our partners and supporters have given us and are thrilled with the lots that we have on offer in the auction. We hope that people get behind the initiative and get bidding as all proceeds will go to the essential charitable activities that the organisation conducts. These funds will assist horses making the transition from racing to a new discipline easier for both the animal and their new owners, as well as providing education courses on welfare and racehorse to riding horse aftercare.”

Auction lots can be viewed HERE and bidding closes on 18th March 2022. If you would like to get involved in other ways please visit the website at www.irishracehorseretirementfund.com for full details of the charity and also the option to buy an adoption pack as a gift for €25.
