Barrier Trials

Irish Thoroughbred Marketing is planning to resume barrier trials at Naas Racecourse on a non-Flat raceday, Wednesday June 5. Further dates are planned through to September.

The trials, taking place under the supervision of the IHRB, will be restricted to unraced two-years-olds over 5f and 6f. If there is sufficient demand, unraced three-year-olds will also be catered for up to 7f.

It is proposed the trials take place ‘on the round’ inside the Flat track proper at Naas and the ground will be rated ‘Good’ in the event of dry weather.

The principal reason for staging barrier trials is to better meet the strong overseas demand for quality unraced horses. However, ITM is open to receiving as many entries as possible while keeping the entry fee at €150 on top of a mandatory provision of €60 for jockeys.

The horses entered must be returned in training with licensed Trainers and ridden by licensed Jockeys under catchweights, ie. without weight restrictions, as is the practice overseas.  The participating horses must also be named and with a starting stalls certificate.

The trials will be recorded, timed and made available online to prospective buyers.

Entries can be made on this website. For further inquiries, contact [email protected] or call 087 112 1625.
