Barrier Trials

Irish Thoroughbred Marketing is planning to resume Barrier Trials at Naas Racecourse on a non-Flat raceday, Tuesday, September 3rd.

The Trials, taking place under the supervision of the IHRB, will be restricted to unraced two-years-olds over distances of 5f, 6f and 7f.

It is proposed the Trials again take place ‘on the round’ inside the Flat track proper at Naas and the ground will be rated ‘Good’ in the event of dry weather.

Naas Racecourse is kindly hosting the Barrier Trials but wishes to restrict numbers to eight Trials with no more than eight horses per Trial - as such, no more than 64 horses will be allowed to take part.

Naas Racecourse also states that the Trials will not go ahead if 'Soft' is in the going description.

The principal reason for staging barrier trials is to better meet the strong overseas demand for quality unraced horses.

The entry fee will be €150 on top of a mandatory provision of €60 for jockeys.

The horses entered must be returned in training with licensed Trainers and ridden by licensed Jockeys under catchweights, ie. without weight restrictions, as is the practice overseas.

The participating horses must also be named and with a starting stalls certificate.

The Trials will be recorded, timed and made available online to prospective buyers.

Entries can be made on this website. For further inquiries, contact [email protected] or call 087 112 1625.
